FAQs

Grant or sponsored arts and cultural activities/events that receive funding from the City of Sydney.

This program is designed to support grant recipients in collecting general public feedback on their event or activity. However, it does not replace any specific reporting requirements or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by your grant agreement. If your project has defined KPIs, you should continue to report on those separately.

Note: This evaluation tool is best suited for public-facing events and activities with general attendees. It is not designed for participant-focused projects such as workshops, training programs, or activities with closed-group engagement.

If you have concerns about meeting the data collection target or managing the process, we recommend discussing this with your grant manager.

If your organisation already uses Culture Counts, you can still request a survey for your City of Sydney-funded project.

Your survey will be made available in the Culture Counts Evaluation Platform, allowing you to manage it alongside your other evaluations.

Alternatively, if you’re designing your own evaluation, we recommend aligning your dimension with some of those being used by the City of Sydney. You can find a list of strategically-aligned dimensions here.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to our team at sydney@dev.culturecounts.cc.

Ensuring that grant programs are achieving their objectives is a critical component of best-practice public policy.

In collaboration with Culture Counts, the City of Sydney aims to:

  • Collect data related to larger strategic outcomes, supporting policy decision-making processes.
  • Use standardised terms and practices wherever possible to maximise comparative evaluation between programs and activities – this includes both internal use of surveys by City of Sydney departments and the organisations it engages via funding.
  • Inform the holistic and evolving strategic goals of the City of Sydney and it’s research and learnings into evaluation practice thus far.
  • Engage organisations in the adoption of rigorous evaluation practices that benefit the arts and culture sector as a whole.

For any grant recipients that are doubtful of their ability to achieve the data collection target ormanage the process, we recommend you speak to your grant manager to discuss.

Culture Counts will provide grant recipients with an online link for your survey that you can share with your attendees or participants.

Please find some suggestions below:

  • Email (if you have attendees/participants’ contact details)
  • Social media
  • QR Codes (to be shared with recipients at events)

The survey is optimised for use on smart devices and mobile phones and should be relatively easy for respondents to fill out on their own device if they have phone reception.

Culture Counts is also able to provide an interview link if you have a tablet and are resourced to deliver the survey in-person. This link allows for multiple responses to be captured on a single device, whereas the online link can only capture a single response. Be careful not to confuse the two different links, as this could result in collecting no data at all if the wrong link is used.

Culture Counts will also provide you with a preview link your survey before sending it out, without collecting any responses. For this reason, please ensure that you are using the different links for their correct purpose.

Once your project has been confirmed with Culture Counts, you will be contacted via your nominated email address containing a link that can be used to check survey responses. When accessing the link, use the menu on the top left of the page to access this information.

Recipients of grants from the City of Sydney retain ownership of all data collected.

Survey questions have been specifically designed as part of this project to ensure that all data collected is anonymised and in line with best-practice data principles.

Anonymised data is then shared with the City of Sydney and other stakeholders as part of this research, with no personal information attached to responses. Grant recipients will also receive a copy of the data collected, if requested.

No identifiable data will be used or released to third parties. Once data has been anonymised, it is not possible to undo this. Please refer to the Privacy Policy on the Culture Counts website for more details.

We design and encourage our customers to only collect anonymised data.

In this case, your survey template adheres to best-practice privacy guidelines. We separate all email addresses (if included) from other survey responses to prevent respondents from being identified. Please refer to the Privacy Policy on the Culture Counts website for more details.
